A.I.: The Future of Manga Translation or false promise?
On Sunday, 22 Mar 2026, I will be moderating a talk on A. I. and manga translation. My interlocutors will be Tony Toshimitsu Tran and Miryll Ihrens, both experienced colleagues in translating mangas.
Ever since generative A.I. models have been on the rise, they have been the talk of the day in the book industry as well as on the manga market. While parts of the industry in Japan already aim at having entire translations completed by A. I., German manga publishers remain reticent. Three experienced translators discuss sense and nonsense of the use of A.I. models for the transfer of manga.
