Literature: CROWD conference
In January, the CROWD conference (CReating Other Ways of Dissemination) gathered at the Berlin Lettrétage. Literary activists from various European countries discussed the situation of literature and the public support for it in their respective countries, listened to literature, and made themselves public.
Now CROWD composed a summarizing report (in English) on the insights gained and published it on their website. The text, different from your traditional conference summary, is pleasant to read and conveys an impression of the situation of literary creators throughout Europe; the relation of different conditions of literary support e. g. in Romania or Iceland cast a light on areas that the average, domestic writer in any other country would otherwise not have insight in – very informative. The report certainly inspires to engage in more exchange with colleagues, particularly across country and language borders. With this, the literary activists sing from the same hymn sheet as translators.
