Mehr Sprachen, mehr Theater II
The time has come: our second brochure on multilingualism in the theatre is ready. Our designer, Egge Freygang, has just sent out the printing order. The digital version is already available online.
Originating from the workshop Multilingualism on Stage in a Global Context in October 2023, this brochure now features contributions by nine theatre authors who write multilingual texts. In this second volume, my wonderful colleague Katharina Rösch and I focus on plays from non-European countries and the languages we encountered in the process. In a year and a half of research, selection and editing, Katharina and I found exciting playwrights from Israel and India, China and Chile, Kurdistan and Kenya, Uganda, Bolivia, Australia, Nigeria, and other parts of the world, read their texts and discussed their linguistic aspects. It was important to us to let the authors themselves have their say and to make their approaches transparent in interviews, so that in the end, this beautiful, extremely polyphonic brochure emerged.
We would like to thank the German Translators Fund for funding this exciting work as part of our workshop project. I would personally like to thank Katharina for the great research and editing work and Egge for the extraordinarily elaborate design and his infinite patience in this collaboration.
You can find the digital version – together with other publications not published by Neofelis Verlag – on the Drama Panorama website.
