CUMIN/THE OTHER LIFE
The Welt/Bühne programme at the Residenztheater in Munich invites three international playwrights to a residency to write plays. This season, the playwrights Deepika Arwind from Bangalore, India, and Odile Gakire Katese from Rwanda as well as Oleksandr Seredin from Ukraine are hosted at the Residenztheater.
To present the non-German texts in German, Welt/Bühne is linked with the Theater Translation Forum of the ITI. Three theatre translators are invited to translate the created texts. They are accompanied by Barbara Christ in a mutual lectorate. The complete translations (all six from the past two seasons) will be presented in readings at the Residenztheater in Munich in June.
I am most delighted to be invited to translate the play CUMIN/THE OTHER LIFE that Deepika Arwind wrote during this programme. In 2020, I already translated her play Phantasmagoria for the GLOBAL Festival of the Munich Teamtheater, it is now represented by Drei Masken Verlag.
The play will be presented as a staged reading in my German translation during the festival programme on 27 June, 2023, at the Residenztheater. Around this event, there will be more readings, discussions, and guest performances related to this and the other plays and playwrights involved.
“Welt/Bühne is organized in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, with the support of the Freunde des Residenztheaters and in collaboration with the Institute for Theater Studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and the August Everding Theater Academy.”
